Counselling FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you’re curious about how sessions work, what I help with, or what it costs, you’ll find answers to common questions here. I’ve designed this space to be transparent, supportive, and easy to navigate — just like therapy should be.
What issues do you help with?
I offer counselling, therapy and coaching for people experiencing challenges in their relationships and emotional lives. Common issues include:
> Recovery from coercive control, emotional abuse or gaslighting
> Communication breakdowns and trust issues
> Anxiety, low self-esteem and shame
> Grief after breakups or toxic relationships
> Dating anxiety or feeling stuck in love
> Exploration of identity and values
Who do you work with?
I work primarily with individuals. My clients include people of all genders and sexualities, and many are LGBTQ+. I provide a supportive, inclusive space that respects your values, culture, and identity. You don’t need to be in a relationship to seek support.
What happens in a session?
Our sessions are conversational, collaborative, and focused on your hopes and concerns. I don’t diagnose or direct. Instead, I work with you to explore your experiences and make meaning of what you’ve been through. We look at patterns, values, and possibilities for change. Sessions are 50 minutes long.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Everything you share in session is confidential and treated with care. The only exceptions are if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, in which case I may have a duty of care to respond appropriately. I’m bound by professional ethics and privacy legislation.
What’s the difference between counselling, therapy and coaching?
While these terms often overlap, here’s how I see them:
- Counselling helps you navigate specific challenges, grief, or transitions
- Therapy allows for deeper exploration of long-standing patterns, beliefs, and identity
- Coaching supports you in moving forward with clarity and intention
My work integrates all three approaches, depending on your needs.
How do I book an appointment?

What are your fees?
My current rate is $270 per 50-minute session.
If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $85.20 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. I am a registered Medicare provider.
Do you offer online appointments?
Yes. I’ve been offering secure webcam therapy since 2009. Online appointments are available to clients across Australia and internationally. Sessions are conducted via Microsoft Teams. In-person sessions are available in Sydney.
